Civil & Structural Engineering

I work as a civil and structural engineer for Perega Ltd, Leeds, UK www.perega.co.uk (formerly Thomasons). Over the years I have written technical papers on limit state design, reinforced concrete, structural steel, codes of practice, Eurocodes, engineering history, quality assurance and health and safety. This website makes these available on line.

I am grateful to the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Concrete Society for permission to include PDFs of papers published in ICE Proceedings and Concrete magazine. I am also grateful to the Institution of Structural Engineers  for permission to include text of papers published in The Structural Engineer; original copies may be obtained from the IStructE website.

The section ‘Useful stuff’ includes information for analysing historic structures, simple span/depth ratios for RC slab design and the easiest-ever formula for steel beam deflexion. There is also guidance on BS8002 retaining wall design, with worked examples and calculation spreadsheets. Notes on foundation and underpinning design include full details of the Hiley and BSP pile-driving formulae, converted to metric units.
